Gay Blackpool
Blackpool has become one of the most popular gay resorts in the country, with around forty hotels and guest houses that welcome, or cater specifically for, a gay clientele. Blackpool tourist office can supply a full gay accommodation list, but good places to try first include Raffles Hotel , set back from Central Pier at 73-75 Hornby Rd (tel 01253/294713; GBP40-50), Mardi Gras , 41-43 Lord St (tel 01253/751087; GBP40-50), the all-male Trades Hotel , 51-55 Lord St (tel 01253/626041; GBP40-50), and the Amalfi Guest House , for women, at 19-21 Eaves St (tel 01253/622971; GBP40-50). There's nightlife to match, with Funny Girls the most high-profile venue. Flamingos , opposite the train station at 174-176 Talbot Rd, is probably the largest and liveliest gay club in Europe, with four storeys of dance floors and eight bars. Other prominent gay bars include the Flying Handbag , at 170-172 Talbot Rd; Pepe's , a basement bar at 94 Talbot Rd; and Basil's , 9 The Strand (tel 01253/294109).
