Tube: Old Street. Directly opposite Bunhill Fields on City Road stands the Georgian ensemble of Wesley's Chapel and House (Mon-Sat 10am-4pm, Sun noon-2pm; GBP4). A place of pilgrimage for Methodists, the uncharacteristically ornate chapel, built in 1777, heralded the coming of age of Wesley's sect. Predictably enough, the Museum of Methodism in the basement has only a passing reference mention to the insanely jealous forty-year-old widow Wesley married, and who eventually left him. Wesley himself spent his last two years in the delightful Georgian house to the right of the main gates, and inside you can see his death bed, plus an early shock-therapy machine he was particularly keen on.
