Tube: St Paul's. The Blitz destroyed the area immediately to the north of St Paul's. In its place, the City authorities built the brazenly modernist Paternoster Square , a grim pedestrianized piazza that has recently been demolished to make way for a new, more restrained masterplan courtesy of Sir William Whitfield, who is seen as a compromise choice in the modernism-versus-classicism debate.
