Tube: Bank or Monument. East of Bank, beyond Bishopsgate, stands Richard Rogers' glitzy Lloyd's Building , completed in 1984. A startling array of glass and blue steel pipes - a vertical version of Rogers' own Pompidou Centre - this is easily the most popular of the new City buildings, at least with the general public. It remains to be seen whether Norman Foster's "upside-down ice-cream cone" building for Swiss Re , to be constructed on the site of the old Baltic Exchange, will upstage Lloyd's. Just south of the Lloyd's building, you'll find the picturesque Leadenhall Market , whose cobbles and richly painted, graceful Victorian cast-ironwork dates from 1881. Inside, the traders cater mostly for the lunchtime City crowd, their barrows laden with exotic seafood and game, fine wines, champagne and caviar.
