At the western end of Old Compton Street runs Wardour Street , a kind of dividing line between the trendier, eastern half of Soho and the seedier western zone. The street itself is largely given over to the film industry - Warner Brothers is based here, along with numerous smaller companies. Immediately west of Wardour Street, the sex and prostitution rackets still have the area well staked out. However, straight prostitution in fact makes up a small proportion of what gets sold here, and has been since Paul Raymond - now Britain's richest man - set up his Folies-Bergere style Revue Bar in the late 1950s, now complemented by the transvestite floor show next door at Madame Jo-Jo's. These last two are paragons of virtue compared with the dodgy videos, short con outfits and rip-off joints that operate in the neighbouring streets. In amongst the video shops and triple-X-rated cinemas is the unlikely sight of Berwick Street Market , one of the capital's finest (and cheapest) fruit and vegetable markets. The street itself is no beauty spot, but the market's barrow displays are works of art in themselves, while, on either side of the marketholders, are some of London's best specialist record shops.
