Backstage tours Mon-Sat 10.30am, 12.30 & 2.30pm; GBP6; www.royaloperahouse.org; Tube: Covent Garden. The Corinthian portico opposite Bow Street magistrates' court belongs to the Royal Opera House (ROH), whose main building dates from 1811, but which has recently undergone a GBP220 million redevelopment. Part and parcel of the rebuilding has been the construction of arcading in the northeast side of the Covent Garden Piazza, from which there's now a passageway through to Bow Street. The public can also gain access to the spectacular wrought-iron Floral Hall (daily 10am-3pm), on the first floor, which now serves as the opera house's main foyer, and the Amphitheatre bar/restaurant, which has a glorious terrace overlooking the piazza.
