The Science Museum , on Exhibition Road, is undeniably impressive, filling seven floors with items drawn from every conceivable area of science, including space travel, telecommunications, time measurement, chemistry, computing, photography and medicine. Keen to dispel the enduring image of museums devoted to its subject as boring and full of dusty glass cabinets, the Science Museum has been busy updating its galleries with more interactive displays, and puts on daily demonstrations to show that not all science teaching has to be deathly dry. Once you've paid your entrance fee, head for the information desk in the Power Hall and find out what events and demonstrations are taking place; you can also sign up for a guided tour on a specific subject. The Launch Pad , aimed at kids, was one of the first hands-on displays and remains as popular and enjoyable as ever, as do the Garden and Things galleries all of which are in the basement. The new Materials gallery is aimed more at adults, and is an extremely stylish exhibition covering the use of materials ranging from aluminium to zerodur (used for making laser gyroscopes). The biggest revamp of all has been the new Wellcome Wing , which aims to keep its displays up-to-date with the latest in computer technology.
