Practicalities
Lyme's nearest train station is in Axminster, five miles north; the #31 bus runs from here to Lyme Regis. The tourist office is on Church Street (May-Oct Mon-Sat 10am-5am, Sun 10am-4pm; Nov-April Mon-Sat 10am-2pm; tel 01297/442138, ). Lyme's sole seafront hotel is the pricey Bay Hotel on Marine Parade (tel 01297/442059; GBP70-90), but you don't have to walk far for more moderately priced accommodation in the centre, such as the Old Monmouth Hotel , at 12 Church St (tel 01297/442456; GBP40-50), or Cliff Cottage on Cobb Road (tel 01297/443334; under GBP40), which has harbour views, a garden chalet and an attached fish restaurant . The Millside Restaurant and Wine Bar , 1 Mill Lane (tel 01297/445999), serving good pasta and fish dishes, is another good place to repair to in the evening; for inexpensive daytime meals, try the Bell Cliff Restaurant at 5-6 Broad St. The best pubs are the Royal Standard on Ozone Parade, and the Pilot Boat on Bridge Street, which also does excellent seafood and vegetarian meals.
