For the casual visitor at least, there's nothing compelling about east Leicestershire , though the scenery is pleasant enough, with open farmland broken up by hills and ridges, and the middling town of

Market Harborough is worth a pit-stop. Things improve over in neighbouring Rutland with a pair of pleasant country towns - Oakham and Uppingham - and get even better at the postcard-pretty hamlet of Lyddington .

Stamford is on the Leicester-Peterborough branch line, whilst Market Harborough is on the Leicester-London main line. There are reasonably frequent buses to and between all the destinations mentioned above, except Lyddington.
