Even at Cambridge, students are not the world's greatest customers for restaurateurs, so although the downtown takeaway and cafe scene is fine, decent restaurants are a little thin on the ground. On any kind of budget, the myriad Italian places - courtesy of Cambridge's large Italian population - will stand you in good stead; otherwise, choose carefully, particularly in the more touristy areas, where quality isn't always all it should be. Happily, Cambridge abounds in excellent pubs , and our list rounds up some of the best traditional student and local drinking haunts.
