Practicalities
The tourist office is centrally placed at Osteragade 8 (mid-June to Sept Mon-Fri 9am-5.30pm, Sat 10am-1pm; rest of year Mon-Fri 9am-4.30pm, Sat 10am-1pm; tel 98.12.60.22, www.visitaalborg.dk ). The cheapest hotels are the traditional Aalborg S ømandshjem , Osterbro 27 (tel 98.12.19.00, www.hotel-aalborg.com ; GBP20-25/$32-40/?36-45) and the slightly cosier Hotellet Krogen , Skibstedsvej 4 (tel 98.12.17.05, www.krogen.dk ; GBP20-25/$32-40/?36-45). There's a large youth hostel (Fjordparken: tel 98.11.60.44, www.danhostelnord.dk/aalborg ; GBP5-10/$8-16/?9-18; reservations necessary) 3km west of the town on the Limfjord bank beside the marina - take bus #8 from the centre to the end of its route - and, about 300m away, a campsite , Strandparken (tel 89.12.76.29, www.strandparken.dk ; mid-April to mid-Sept). For a little more adventure, catch the half-hourly ferry (tel 98.11.78.23; 6.30am-11.15pm; 12kr) from near the campsite to Egholm, an island in Limfjord with free camping under open-sided shelters. In pursuit of food and drink , almost everybody heads for Jomfru Ane Gade, a small street close to the harbour between Bispensgade and Borgergade, on which a number of restaurants/bars advertise daily specials: the most reliable are Fyrtøjet at no.7, and Dirch's Regensen at no.16, which generally offer lunch for 50-60kr. Aalborg Kongres & Kultur Center at Europa Pads 4 (tel 99.35.55.65, www.akkc.dk ) is the city's new theatre and concert venue.
