Eating, Drinking and Nightlife
There are plenty of restaurants and snack bars in the city centre, and some good bargains to be had. Den Gyldne ovn on Fisketorvet is a reliable spot for freshly made sandwiches from the in-house bakery, while for more substantial eating, the best and oldest of the many pizzerias is Pizzeria Ristorante Italiano , Vesterbrogade 9. You might also try the Thai food all-you-can-eat buffet of the Oriental Barbeque House , Slotsgade 20, Mexican dishes at Tortilla Flat , Frederiksgade 38, or the only vegetarian option, K?rnehuset on the first floor of Nedergade 6, where the meal of the day costs 40kr and is served promptly between 6 and 7pm - bring your own wine. If you'd prefer a steak or spareribs, head for Edyes K?lder, Kongensgade 31A. For evening drinking , try Carlsen's Kvarter , an inexpensive Irish pub on Laessøgade which serves fine beers; otherwise drop into the fashionable Cafe Biografen , one of many eating and drinking spots in Brandts Passage, which has a little three-screen cinema that tends to show more arty films than the seven-screen complex in the train station. At the passage entrance, Cuckoo's Nest is a favourite for drinks or a light snack before moving on to Jazzhus Dexter , Vindegade 65, for swing to fusion jazz until early morning. The Badstuen cultural centre, Ostre Stationsvej 26, has a cafe that occasionally hosts raucous live bands , as does Rytmeposten across the road at Ostre Stationsvej 27a. There's bluesier fare to be found in the likeably scruffy Musikkaelderen , Dronningsgengade 2B, and easier rock at Radhusk?lderen , Vestergade 15-17.
