Most of the buildings in the area south of Christiansborg are connected to Christian IV (1577-1648) and the period when Slotsholmen was home of the Danish Royal Navy. The buildings here are mostly much older than those of Christiansborg, with a predominance of solid-looking red-brick constructions capped by massive tiled roofs.
