Guided tours in English: May-Sept daily at 11am & 3pm, June-Aug also at 1pm; Oct-April Tues, Thurs, Sat & Sun at 11am and 3pm; 40kr. The Royal Reception Rooms are located in Christiansborg Slot's north wing - go through the main entrance into the courtyard and they're on your right. The rooms are used mainly by the royal family as a place in which to wow important visitors, though given the Danish royals' easygoing attitude, the formality and stateliness of these meticulously kept chambers can come as a surprise. The Throne Room has walls covered in delicate and richly decorated silk from Lyon, while the Alexander Hall is encircled by Thorvaldsen's magnificent frieze depicting Alexander's arrival into Babylon. In the Great Hall, Bjørn Nørgaard's tapestries (a fiftieth birthday present to the present queen) depict the history of Denmark in an unusually modern and colourful way that somehow seems to fit the otherwise classical room.
