Free access to the spectators' gallery during sittings of parliament. Guided tours on Sun at 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm & 4pm; free (call 33 37 55 00 or visit www.folketing.dk for info on English-language tours). The Folketing is located in Christiansborg Slot's south wing - walk left around the outside of the building from Christiansborg Slotsplads to reach the entrance. You can visit the main parliamentary chamber, the Folketingssal , at any time during the surprisingly informal parliamentary sittings (usually after 1pm on Tues & Weds, and after 10am Thurs & Fri; no sessions June & July) and see Danish democracy at work, but you'll get a much better impression of the Folketing by taking one of the tours. Well-informed guides lead you up the magnificent staircase to the seemingly endless Vandrehal (Hall of Wandering), where the original Danish constitution from 1849 is exhibited in a silver chest, along with other important historical documents. You're also introduced to the Folketing and its somewhat complicated seating arrangement (left-wing politicians sometimes sit to the right of the podium, depending on their length of service), and the surprisingly engaging collection of paintings of prominent politicians.
