Commissioned by Frederik V and designed by Danish architect Nicolai Eigtved, the district of Frederikstad was intended as a royal quarter fit for a noble elite. Containing the residence of Danish royalty, Amalienborg , and the grandest place of worship in the city, Marmorkirken , Frederikstad raised Copenhagen to new levels of urban elegance.
