Sport and Outdoor Activities
In terms of health and fitness the Danes are a contradictory lot: the country has one of Europe's highest rates of smoking- and drinking-related deaths, yet also, thanks to massive government funding, boasts some of the best public sports facilities in the world. Far and away the country's most popular sport is football , an enthusiasm which has been nourished by the excellent performances of the national team during the past two decades. Recreational sports like golf, tennis and swimming are also well catered for, while Copenhagen's proximity to the sea means there are plenty of opportunities for water-based activities like windsurfing, kayaking, diving and fishing. All the venues listed here are within easy reach of the city centre.
