Cannabis In Copenhagen
At times, Copenhagen can appear like an Amsterdam of the north: young people searching for thrills and cheap drugs from other, less tolerant Nordic nations descend on the city, and the smell of marijuana smoke pervades the city's parks and even some bars. Christiania's Pusherstreet hashish market - the largest source of the drug in northern Europe - is entirely open, whilst scattered throughout the city are numerous, unsignposted outlets that sell the drug. Though all this might seem to suggest that Copenhagen is entirely tolerant of cannabis, it's not. Police may be lenient to locals - usually a warning or an on-the-spot fine - but visitors can be expelled from the country. If you want to smoke pot, it's best to stick to the confines of Christiania, where cannabis is tolerated. Note, though, that hard drugs are not welcome in Christiania, and also remember that attempting to smuggle even a small quantity of cannabis into the UK or any other country is illegal and carries stiff penalties, including prison.
