One reason to hop on a tram is to visit the city's modern-art museum, housed in a vast functionalist 1920s building known as the Trade Fair Palace (Veletrzni palac; Tues-Sun 10am-6pm, Thurs until 9pm), on Dukelskych hrdinu 47 (tram #5 from namesti Republiky). The museum's raison d'etre is its unrivalled permanent collection of twentieth-century Czech art, but it also houses the National Gallery's modest collection of nineteenth- and twentieth-century European art, including works by Klimt, Schiele, Picasso and the French Impressionists, as well as temporary exhibitions of contemporary Czech and foreign art.
