Wedged between Bohemia and Slovakia, Moravia (Morava) is the smallest of the three provinces which once made up Czechoslovakia, but possibly the prettiest, friendliest and most bucolic. Although the North Moravian corridor is heavily industrialized and has suffered from increasingly high unemployment over the past decade, much of the region is rural and the folk roots, traditions and religion here are strongly felt. The Moravian capital, Brno , a once-grand nineteenth-century city, is within easy striking distance of Moravia's spectacular karst region . In the northern half of the province, the Baroque riches of the Moravian prince-bishopric have left their mark on the old capital, Olomouc , now a thriving university town and one of the region's main attractions.
