Each morning small boats leave Komiza harbour for the short crossing to BISEVO , a tiny islet just to the southwest of Vis. There's a seasonally inhabited hamlet just up from Bisevo's small harbour, and a couple of attractive coves, but the main attraction here is the Blue Cave (Modra spilja; 25kn) on the island's east coast, a grotto which can only be reached by sea, so-named because water-filtered sunlight shines in through a submerged side entrance to bathe everything in the cavern in an eerie shimmering blueness. Due to the narrowness of the entrance, the cave can't be entered when the sea is choppy, so you should ask the tourist office in either Komiza or Vis Town about weather forecasts as soon as you arrive on the island. There are two ways to visit the cave: the easiest is to take one of the many advertised excursions from either Komiza or Vis Town (price of about 60-80kn per person includes the cave entrance fee); although it's also possible to take a taxi boat from Komiza harbour to the island itself (10kn), from where you can walk to a spot near the cave entrance. Whichever way you come, you'll be transferred to a small boat before being ferried inside. If you come clad in swimming costume you're allowed to take a dip in the water - although be warned that the volume of tourist traffic often means that you're hurried along by the boatman and never get to spend as much time in the cave as you would wish.
