Eating and Drinking
For eating , the daily market at the eastern edge of the old town is an excellent place to shop for fruit, veg and local cheeses, while the 24-hour bakery directly opposite the market on Zagrebacka is something of a late-night Split institution. There are few restaurants in the old town, although Sarajevo , Domaldova 6, has a good range of Croatian meat and fish dishes. Further afield, Galija at Matosica 2 on the western fringes of the old town, is the best of the pizzerias; while Konoba kod Joze at Sredmanuska 4, ten minutes' northeast of the old town, is an atmospheric place specializing in seafood. Konoba Varo , up behind the Bellevue Hotel at ban Mladenova 7, is another traditional Dalmatian restaurant. There are plenty of pavement cafes along the seafront for daytime and evening drinking , though they are usually packed. The best of the rest are the bars within the old town: try Planet Jazz , a bohemian hangout on Grgura Ninskog; the similar Jazz III on Vukicoviceva; or Song on Mihovilova sirina, a slightly dressier place which is crowded on summer evenings. Shakespeare , Uvala Zente 3, is a popular disco just east of Bacvice beach with an outdoor terrace overlooking the shore. Obojena Svjetlost , on the beach beneath the Mestrovic gallery, is an animated open-air disco/bar that stays open until the early hours. Internet access is available at Internet, Games & Books , 200m north of the train station on Obala kneza Domagoja.
