Arrival, Information and Accommodation
The main bus and railway stations are next door to each other on Obala Kneza Domagoja, five minutes' walk from the centre, just around the harbour; the ferry terminal for both domestic and international ferries, together with the Jadrolinija booking office, is a few hundred metres south of here. Split's airport is some 16km west of town. Croatia Airlines buses (25kn) connect with scheduled flights and run into central Split, dropping you right on the waterfront; alternatively, a taxi will set you back about 200kn. Split's new tourist office is located in the Peristil of the Palace (Mon-Sat 8am-8pm, Sun 8am-1pm; tel 021/355-088, www.visitsplit.com ). Turist Biro, on the waterfront at Obala narodnog preporoda 12 (July-Sept Mon-Fri 7.30am-9pm, Sat 8am-8pm, Sun 8am-1pm; rest of year Mon-Fri 7.30am-8pm, Sat 8am-2pm; tel 021/342-142), arranges accommodation in private rooms (GBP5-10/$8-16/?9-18); it's quite likely that you'll be accosted by landladies offering rooms at both the train and bus stations - particularly worth considering if arriving late at night. Most reasonable of the hotels are the Slavija , which has basic rooms (some with shower, some without) in the old town at Buvinova 3 (tel 021/347-053; GBP10-15/$16-24/?18-27); the more comfortable Bellevue on the western fringes of the old town at bana Jelacica 2 (tel 021/585-701; GBP15-20/$24-32/?27-36); and the Marjan , (tel 021/342-866, www.hotel-marjan.com ; GBP20-25/$32-40/?36-45), a more business-oriented place five minutes' further west at Obala kneza Branimira 8.
