Eating and Entertainment
For eating , the Tangra, Dedov and Ezeroto all have good restaurants, while Rasputin , not far from the Tangra , at Kiril i Metodi 64, serves good-quality Bulgarian standards in an intimate little courtyard, and is regarded as the best in town. Cafes and sladkarnitsi on Mitropolit Kusev and Tsar Simeon are the best places in which to linger over a drink or an ice cream. For details of the town's folkloric events throughout the year, contact the Economic Development Agency. In particular, try and catch the local girls performing traditional Lazaruvane songs in the town centre on the weekend of Palm Sunday, the Trakia Pee ("Thrace Sings") festival involving folk groups from throughout Thrace performing in outdoor venues in late May or early June, and the national festival of Gypsy music which takes place in Ayazmo Park, north of the centre, in late June or July. Other civic events worth catching include the festival of the Opera and Ballet in May and the beer festival , held every August - a good opportunity to sample the famous local brew, Zagorka.
