One of the finest houses in Koprivshtitsa stands just uphill from the main square, on ul. Garanilo. The Oslekov House (Mon 9.30-noon & Tues-Sun 9.30am-5.30pm) was built in 1856 for local tax collector and much-travelled merchant, Nincho Oslekov. Its facade is upheld by pillars of cedar wood imported from Lebanon, and adorned with views of Padua, Rome and Venice - just some of the foreign cities visited by its proud owner - painted by the Samokov craftsman Kosta Zograf (brother of the icon-painter, Zahari Zograf). The upstairs rooms have lovely fretted wooden ceilings and panelled walls, especially in the Summer Guest Room, where one of the murals shows the original, symmetrical plan of the house, never realized since Oslekov's neighbours refused to sell him the necessary land. It was here that the uniforms for the revolutionaries of 1876 were made, and a spinning wheel and some of the shears, thimbles and suchlike employed in that furtive endeavour are on display.
