Practicalities
Hisar's only habitable hotels are on the eastern fringes of town (from the bus and train stations, head left along bul. Botev for 500m before turning right just beyond the Orfey restaurant). The Hisar (tel 0337/2781, fax 3815; US$18-36) is just about acceptable, with simple if slightly shabby ensuite rooms, while the Augusta (tel 0337/3821; US$18-36) is in a different league altogether - rooms have TV and ensuite bathrooms fed by mineral water, and there's a swimming pool and a range of spa treatments on site. Daytime eating and drinking centres around the numerous cafes on the main square, although at night you're probably better off sticking to the hotel restaurants.
