The Museum of Peyu Yavorov is nestled in a secession-style house at no. 136 (Tues & Sun 1-7pm, Thurs 1-5pm, Fri & Sat 9am-5pm). One of the most compelling figures in Bulgarian literature, Yavorov lived in a modest first-floor flat here for eleven months in 1913. Among the period furniture and traditional rugs are some evocative personal effects, such as the knife and binoculars given to him by Macedonian freedom fighters Gotse Delchev and Yane Sandanski respectively. Quite by chance, the photographs of Yavorov and wife Lora which hang in the sitting-room have been separated by a large crack which has recently appeared in the wall - a poignant reminder of their tragic end.
