The silhouette of Mt Vitosha surmounting the rooftops is the first thing you see on bulevard Vitosha , which stretches south from pl. Sveta Nedelya. Its foothills are hazy beyond the boulevard's tram wires, the vanishing point of parallel lines of greyish buildings, most of which date from the inter-war years. Lined with pavement cafes and the capital's more stylish shops, Vitosha is an invigorating street to stroll along, although there's little in the way of specific sights save for the monumental cast-iron lions guarding the neo-Egyptian facade of the Palace of Justice ( Sadebna palata ), at its northern end. Just round the back of the Palace of Justice, on the corner of ul. Alabin and ul. Lavele, lurks one of Sofia's least-known attractions, the Museum of the Interior Ministry ( Muzeum na MVR ; Mon-Fri 9am-12.30pm & 1.30-5.30pm; free). Changing displays on the history of law, order and police procedure usually feature a fair proportion of grisly crime-scene photographs - definitely not recommended for the young and the sqeamish.
