The star attraction in the southwestern Rhodopes is the locality of Trigrad , with its awesome gorge and caves . Getting there without a car can be a challenge, as the only bus to Trigrad (from Devin; Mon-Sat) leaves unpredictably, if at all. Hitching is an option: quite a lot of traffic runs the 9km along the main Devin to Dospat road to Teshel, from where you could walk to Trigrad (10km) or Yagodina (8km), along minor roads, both of which run through gorges noted for their caves. Once there, you could easily hike round all the sites in the area within two to three days. The region is covered by map #2 in the BTS Rhodopes series.
