Sozopol Arrival and Accommodation

Arrival and Accommodation

Just 35km south of Burgas, Sozopol is easily accessible by bus . Arriving at the bus station on pl. Han Krum, you may be approached by locals offering private rooms , although these could well be overpriced, especially in high season, when you'll find it near impossible to find accommodation of any kind unless you book in advance. There are several local agents which are worth trying: Lotos (tel 05514/2282), right by the bus station at ul. Musala 7, and Amon-Ra (tel 05514/2208), in the new town at ul. Republikanska 1, both offer rooms ranging from old houses on the peninsula, to the more spacious chalet-style buildings of the Harmanite district (US$9-US$18-36). Agents' opening hours tend to be erratic, though, and, as usual along the coast, staff tend to speak German, rather than English. Note also that many places will insist on a minimum stay of at least three or four days, or even a week, at busy times of year.

The new part of town also has some good small hotels : Alfa-Beta , at ul. Republikanska 9 (tel 05514/3614; US$18-36) is a friendly, family-run place with small ensuite rooms and a nice breakfast garden. List , Cherno More 5 (tel & fax 05514/2235; US$36-60), is the nearest to the seafront, and has TV, minibar and air-conditioning in all rooms. Further uphill, the Orion , Vihren 28 (tel 05514/3193; US$18-36), offers better value, with small but comfortable ensuite rooms with TV and balconies - some with quite spectacular views - as well as several four-person apartments for US$40-50. Nearby, at no. 32, the modern Lola (tel 088/888007; US$18-36) has

simple, clean rooms, with air-conditioning. Most, if not all of these may well close out of season, in which case the Voennomorski Klub , or Navy Club, ul. Republikanska (tel 05514/245307; US$18-36), is a reliable, year-round source of cheap if unexciting ensuite rooms. The Zlatna Ribka   campsite (tel 05514/2427), 3km north of town, is one of the south coast's best, situated on a part-sandy, part-rocky coastline - the bus from Burgas passes the site on its way into town.
