On the other side of the concourse from the church, Sozopol's municipal library forms the backdrop for a temporary amphitheatre , erected for use during the Apollonia Festival and serving as a concert venue throughout the summer. Hidden around the side of the library, the slightly shabby Archeological Museum (summer daily 8am-5pm; winter closed Sat & Sun; US$1) displays an extensive collection of ancient amphoras and barnacle-encrusted anchors, dredged from the sea off Sozopol. There's also some colourful imported Greek tableware, dating to the sixth century BC, as well as examples of rough Bronze Age pottery from a range of sites along the coast, including Kiten and Varna Lake. One of the more interesting exhibits, though, is a tiny wooden figure, tentatively identified as a representation of Apollo, dating to the fifth century BC and discovered in Sozopol harbour.
