Arrival and Accommodation
Both the train station and the main bus station (Avtogara Yug) are just south of the centre on pl. Garov. The half-hourly bus #15 from the airport ends up here too, and it's the best place to pick up a taxi. There's a left luggage office behind the bus station. An additional bus station, Avtogara Zapad, lies 3km northwest of the centre (buses #4 and #9 go the nearest), although you're only likely to use it if you're travelling to or from Malko Tarnovo. Private rooms in downtown apartment blocks are available from Dimant, Tsar Simeon 15 (summer daily 8am-8pm, winter Mon-Fri 9am-5.30pm; tel 056/840779), for $5 per head, while the town's hotels tend to be overpriced for what they are. The cheapest is the Mirazh , Lermontov 48 (no phone; US$18-36), which offers basic rooms in a downtown block, while the other downtown options are the Primorets , at the bottom end of the Sea Gardens at pl. Aleksandar Batenberg 2 (tel 056/841417 or 842045, fax 842934; US$36-60), and the imposing but slightly dated Bulgaria on ul. Aleksandrovska (tel 056/842820 or 842610, fax 841291; US$36-60). The Astoria , on ul. Kyril i Metodi 38 (tel 088/543090 or 735894; US$36-60), is a rather more modern option, offering comfortably furnished ensuites with TV and mini-bar. The nearest campsite is Kraimorie , 14km south of town and 2km off the coastal road: any bus heading south can drop you at the turn-off.
