As befits the city of Mozart, music is Salzburg's speciality. Most of this is of the classical variety, but a city of such size can't get away without at least a handful of rock venues and clubs. Theatre is also serious business here, although challenging German-language drama may not be everyone's cup of tea. The best sources of listings information are Stadt Leben , a free monthly available from the tourist office which, although printed in German, is pretty easy to decipher; the tourist office's own multilingual Events brochure, published every two months; or the Salzburger Nachrichten daily newspaper. The Salzburg Ticket Service, inside the tourist office (tel 0662/840310, www.salzburgticket.com ), has tickets for most of the performances going on in the city, including the Festspiele. Don't forget sport : addresses for activities like swimming and ice skating can be found in "Listings". The main spectator sport is without doubt football . Austrian champions in 1994, 1995 and 1997, local team SV Salzburg play at the Casino Stadion on Schumacherstrasse, 1.5km north of the Altstadt (tel 0662/433332-0; buses #49 or #95 from F-Hanusch-Platz to Nelkenstrasse). Most matches are played on Saturday afternoons, and sometimes Saturday evenings.
