Cycling
Austria is a bicycle-friendly country, with cycling lanes in all major towns. There are also a large number of designated cycle routes out in the countryside; these include stretches of pedestrian- and cycle-only pathway, but more often consist of a separate lane by the roadside. Most well-touristed places in Austria boast a couple of bike rental ( Fahrradverlieh ) outlets - usually requiring production of a passport or other photo-accompanied ID. Over fifty train stations rent out bikes for oS180/?13.08 per day or oS900/?65.41 per week, oS120/?8.72 and oS600/?43.60 if you have a valid rail ticket or Vorteilscard. Children's bikes, and children's seats are also available. The bikes can be returned to a different station to the one you set out from for an extra fee of oS90/?6.54 (oS45/?3.27 if you have a ticket). Train stations don't always have the widest choice of bikes, however, and for something more specialized, like a mountain bike , it's often better to go to another bike rental operator, where prices may be up to oS50/?3.63 per day higher. Details of where to rent bikes in the larger towns and resorts are given throughout this guide.
