From Santiago the Interamericana continues west into the rich agricultural province of Chiriqui. A large area of the forested slopes of the Cordillera Central to the north and the Caribbean coast beyond is recognized as the Comarca Ngobe-Bugle . Commonly but erroneously referred to as the Guaymi, the Ngobe and Bugle (or Bokata) are two closely related peoples who together form the largest indigenous group in Panama. Recognizable by their women's brightly coloured dresses, the Ngobe-Bugle travel widely throughout the provinces of Chiriqui and Bocas del Toro to work on the farms, ranches and banana and coffee plantations - migrant wage labourers on the rich lands that once belonged to their ancestors.
