Practicalities
Buses to Panama City and Chitre arrive and leave from the terminal on C 10, which links the Interamericana with Av Central in the city centre, while through buses heading for David pull in at the service station close to the Hotel Gran David on the Interamericana. The Gran David (tel 998 4510; US$10-15) is the most convenient place to stay , with comfortable rooms set around a central garden with a swimming pool and a good restaurant . There are several other upmarket places to eat on this stretch of the Interamericana, and if you do go into the centre of town it's worth stopping at the 24-hour Cafe El Aire Libre , on Av Central, which is very popular for snacks, sandwiches and excellent coffee, as well as more substantial meals. The only real reason to go into town however is to visit one of the banks (with ATMs) on Av Central, which include a Banco Nacional and a Banco del Istmo. There's also a helpful IPAT office (Mon-Fri 8.30am-4.30pm; tel 998 3929) on Av Central, which has plenty of information on Veraguas's largely neglected tourist attractions, and a cyber-cafe, the Internet Zone Cafe .
