Information
The only place in Managua equipped to provide information is Managua's Inturismo office, one block west of the old Hotel Inter-Continental (Mon-Fri 8.30am-12.30pm & 1.30-5pm; tel 222-2962). Taxis will know it as the Ministerio de Turismo or, more simply, as the Turismo. If there's no one there, ask the security guard at the corner entrance to phone for you and someone will come and open the door. The staff are well-intentioned and some speak English, although they don't have much in the way of handouts. It's worth buying the © 2003 by Rough Guides Ltd. as trustee for its Authors. excellent city map of Managua (US$2.50) from them, if available. You may also be able to pick up a copy here of the useful bimonthly Guia Facil Nicaragua (US$1), which lists cultural events and entertainment throughout the country, with features on regions and tourist activities. Transport schedules are also sometimes included and there's usually a helpful map of Managua on the inside back cover. If Inturismo don't have any copies, try the Casa del Cafe and at the larger hotels.
