Even if you don't like Tela, the town redeems itself with an abundance of places to visit in its vicinity. These include Garifuna villages on either side of town, sited along the bay on pristine beaches, the Punta Sal and Punta Izopo wildlife reserves, and Lancetilla , 5km south of town, probably the finest botanical reserve in Latin America. For getting to all of these places you can take taxis or rely on local buses, but renting a bike is probably the most enjoyable way to get around.
