Nightlife and The Arts
There's no excuse for staying in on any night in Buenos Aires: Portenos are consummate night owls and though nightlife peaks from Thursday to Saturday, you'll find plenty of things to do during the rest of the week too. Venues are to be found all over the city, but there are certain key areas. The Costanera Norte and Las Canitas in Palermo are where the city's young and wealthy go to strut their stuff. El bajo, as the streets around Reconquista and 25 de Mayo are known, offers a walkable circuit of trendy bars and restaurants as well as the odd Irish pub , while San Telmo harbours some eclectic and interesting bars in amongst the tango spectacles. However, if you really want to sample the full range of Buenos Aires' superb nightlife you'll have to follow the example of locals and move around a bit. The daily paper Clarin and Via Libre, La Nacion 's Friday supplement, have topical listings sections. Also worth looking out for is the tiny magazine wipe ( www.wipe.com.ar ), given out in some bars or on sale in kiosks, which is particularly good for the trendy end of the city's cultural events and nightlife. Look out, too, for La Otra Guia , the listings sheet for the gay scene, and El Tangauta and Buenos Aires Tango for, of course, tango .
