Copan Eating and Drinking

Eating and Drinking

Copan has a wide range of places to eat and drink , many of them catering specifically to the tourist market, and standards are usually very high, with generous portions and good service. Virtually all restaurants stop serving at 10pm.

Cafe Izabel , one block west of the plaza. Unpretentious comedor serving a range of well-prepared local dishes; the vegetable soup is particularly good.

Cafe Via Via , two blocks west of the plaza. Belgian-owned establishment with a nice little streetside terrace and magazines to browse through. Good sandwiches, breakfasts, pancakes and omelettes.

Cafe Velchez , northwest corner of the Parque. Pleasant European-style cafe, serving good but fairly pricey coffees, juices and licuados , alcoholic drinks (including wine by the glass), cakes and light meals. There's a cigar bar upstairs - good for people-watching.

Carnitas Nia Lola , two blocks south of the Parque. The most atmospheric place in town, this highly popular restaurant-bar serves large portions of delicious grilled and barbecued meats, plus vegetarian dishes, at reasonable prices. It's equally popular as a drinking venue, with an early-evening happy hour and a good mix of locals and visitors.

Llama del Bosque , two blocks west of the Parque. Slightly old-fashioned restaurant with a big menu including local breakfasts, meat and chicken dishes, baleadas and snacks.

Rancho de Tono , three blocks west of the plaza. Vast new palapa -style restaurant specializing

in fresh fish, with huge, reasonably priced portions and friendly service.

Tunkul Bar and Restaurant , across from Llama del Bosque . Busy garden restaurant-bar with good food, including burritos, vegetarian dishes and the near-legendary garlic chicken, plus lively music and a happy hour (8-9pm).

Vamos a Ver Cafe , one block south of the Parque. Busy Dutch-owned garden cafe, popular with travellers, with delicious homemade soups, sandwiches and snacks.
