Eating and Drinking
There's a more than adequate range of places to eat in West End, with fish, seafood and pasta featuring heavily on many menus. Drinking can drain your pocket fast, and it's best to seek out the half-price happy hours at many of the restaurants and bars; starting at around 4.30pm, many of them last until 10pm. The Twisted Toucan , halfway along the seafront is usually the happening place in town most nights, except Fridays, when everyone heads to Foster's for the weekly reggae jump up. Lighthouse Restaurant , close to the seafront between West End and Half Moon Bay. Big portions of reasonably priced Caribbean food served up in friendly, diner-like surrounds. Pinocchio's , in the hotel of the same name. One of the finest restaurants in West End, with an eclectic range of creative, but fairly pricey, European meat and fish dishes. Closed Wed. Rudy's Coffee Stop . Legendary breakfasts of banana pancakes, omelettes, fresh coffee and juices. Closed Sun. Salt and Pepper , at the entrance to the village. Wide-ranging gourmet menu including French, Japanese and Thai dishes. Expect to pay upwards of US$10 a head with wine, but the relaxed atmosphere and excellent cooking make it worth the money. Sunflower Cafe , close to the centre of Half Moon Bay. Cheerful North American-owned cafe serving delicious omelettes, bagels and muffins. Open 7am-3pm only.
