Arrival and Information
The bus terminal , a large, open affair, is about four blocks south and a couple east of the central plaza. Connections are generally excellent from Quiche. There's a constant stream of second-class buses to Guatemala City, going every thirty minutes between 3.30am and 5pm (3hr 30min); all pass through Chichicastenango (30min) and Los Encuentros (1hr). There are also regular services to Nebaj between 8.30am and 4pm (5 daily; 3hr 30min), to Uspantan four times daily between 9am and 2pm (5hr), and to Quetzaltenango (7 daily; 3hr). Inter airlines also serve Quiche with daily flights from Guatemala City (25min; US$55 one way). The airstrip is 4km south of the town centre. The street directly north of the terminal is 1 Avenida , which takes you up into the heart of the town. Two banks will change your travellers' cheques: Banco G&T Continental, 6 A 3-00 (Mon-Fri 9am-7pm, Sat 9am-1pm), and Banco Industrial, at the northwest corner of the plaza (Mon-Fri 8.30am-5.30pm, Sat 8.30am-12.30pm), which also advances cash on Visa. If you're heading into the Ixil triangle, you may need to stock up on film: try the Kodak or Fuji shops, both one block northeast of the central church.
