Eating and Drinking
The steady flow of gringo travellers has given San Pedro's cafes and restaurants a decidedly international flavour, and most places are also excellent value for money. Vegetarians are well catered for, though there are also a few typical Guatemalan comedores in the centre of the village and by the Santiago dock. The San Pedro drinking scene is centred around the English-owned D'Noz bar, above Nick's Place , where you'll find an eclectic musical selection, plus free video movies (nightly at 7pm) and tasty food. Between the docks there are more drinking holes, including the Dutch-run Tony's Sports Bar and Torj's Bar over the pathway. The guys at D'Noz also organize DJ-driven full moon parties on the lakeside close to San Pedro most months of the year, though events are sometimes cancelled in the rainy season. Cafe Luna Azul , 400m west of the Panajachel dock. Wonderful lakeside location, with a good dock for swimming and sunning, plus great breakfasts, lunches and treats - try the chocolate fudge cake. Open daily 9am-4pm. Comedor Frances , between the docks. Reasonably priced Gallic fare including coq-au-vin at less than US$2 and yummy crepes. Matahari , turn right from the Santiago dock. The best comedor in San Pedro, with a tasty line-up of Guatemalan dishes and amazingly good fries. Nick's Place , by the Panajachel dock. Great-value grub (chicken and chips at US$2) and a lakefront location make this the most popular place in town. There's another branch serving Italian food beside the Santiago dock. Pinocchio , between the two docks. Consistently good Italian, where you can feast on bruschetta and pasta in a pretty garden setting. Restaurant Rosalinda , a short walk uphill from Santiago dock. Excellent comedor, with fresh lake fish, grilled meats and a warm welcome. Restaurant Ti'Kaaj , opposite the hotel of the same name. Stunning views of the lake and volcanoes from the upper floor, and a lovely garden out front. Famous for its burgers, though it also does great breakfasts and pasta. Tintin , between the docks. Pleasant patio setting and a delicious menu of pitta bread sandwiches, Thai and Indonesian dishes.
