Nightlife
Panajachel has a gregarious party spirit at weekends and during the main holiday season, when many young Guatemalans head to the lake to drink and flirt, though things are less lively at other times. The town's prime bar and dance scene is centred around the southern end of Calle de los Arboles, where there's a cluster of busy places including the long-running Circus Bar, Porque No and El Aleph for live music , plus the Chapiteau nightclub . For a less frenetic environment head for Moonfish or The Last Resort (see "Cafes and Restaurants"), or Ubu's Cosmic Cantina , on Calle de los Arboles, where there's a big screen for sports fans, movie buffs and news addicts. Finally, there are occasional poetry recitals at Delante's Bookshop off Calle Buenas Nuevas, video movies at Carrot Chic and Turquoise Buffalo cinemas on Calle de los Arboles, and a pool hall in the old village, near the post office.
