Huehuetenango Arrival, Information and Accommodation

Arrival, Information and Accommodation

Huehue is fairly small so you shouldn't have any problems finding your way around, particularly once you've located the plaza. You'll arrive at the purpose-built bus terminal halfway between the Carretera Interamericana and town. Minibuses make constant trips between the town centre and the bus terminal. Daily flights from Guatemala City land at the airstrip 3km south of the centre of town (50min; US$60 one way).

There's a post office at 2 C 3-54 (Mon-Fri 8am-4.30pm), a Telgua office at 4 Av 6-54 (7am-10pm) and two Internet cafes : Genesis at 2 C 6-37 and Mi Tierra at 4 C 6-46 - both charge around US$3.80 an hour. Huehue also boasts a couple of decent language schools .

Casa Blanca , 7 Av 3-41 (tel & fax 769 0777). Modern up market hotel, built in colonial style; all rooms have private bath and cable TV. The fine restaurant and spacious garden terrace are well worth a visit too. US$25-40.

Hotel Central , 5 Av 1-33 (tel 764 1202) Classic budget hotel, with large, scruffy rooms in a creaking old wooden building, plus a fantastic comedor. No singles or private baths. Up to US$5.

Hotel Gobernador , 4 Av 1-45 (tel & fax 764 1197). Excellent budget hotel run by a very friendly family, with attractive rooms, some with bath, and reliable hot showers. US$5-10.

Hotel Mary , 2 C 3-52 (tel 764 1618, fax 764 7412). Centrally located with small but pleasant rooms, most with private shower, and loads of steaming hot water. US$5-15.

Hotel San Luis de la Sierra , 2 C 7-00 (tel & fax 764 1103). Spotless modern hotel with small but very attractive rooms, all with good showers and cable TV; some have wonderful views of the mountains. US$15-25.

Hotel Vasquez , 2 C 6-67 (tel 764 1338). Cell-sized rooms around a bare courtyard, but clean and safe, with secure parking. US$5-10.

Hotel Zaculeu , 5 Av 1-14 (tel 764 1086, fax 764 1575). Large, comfortable hotel, something of an institution. Some of the

older rooms surrounding a leafy courtyard are a bit musty and gloomy, while those in the more expensive new section are larger and more spacious. All come with cable TV and private bath. There's also parking and a reasonable restaurant. US$15-40.

Todos Santos Inn , 2 C 6-74 (tel 7641241). Good, secure budget hotel, though the rooms do vary in quality - some are bright and cheery with bedside lights, others are less attractive. An excellent deal for single travellers. US$5-15.
