Arrival and Information
There's no bus station in Chichi, but the corner of 5 C and 5 Av operates loosely as a terminal. Buses heading between Guatemala City and Santa Cruz del Quiche pass through Chichicastenango every thirty minutes, stopping in town for a few minutes to load up with passengers. In Guatemala City, buses leave from the terminal in Zona 4, from 4am to about 5pm. Coming from Antigua, you can pick up a bus easily in Chimaltenango. From Panajachel, you can take any bus up to Los Encuentros and change there; on market days there are also several direct buses, supplemented by a steady flow of special tourist shuttles run by various companies. There are also special shuttle services from Antigua on market days. There's a small Inguat tourist information office (daily 8am-noon & 2-6pm; tel 756 1015) beside Santo Tomas church on 8 Calle; they usually have a good stock of leaflets about the department. If you're bitten by market fever and need to change money , there's no problem in Chichi, even on a Sunday: try Banco Ejercito on 6 Calle (Tues-Sun 9am-5pm) or, almost opposite, Banco Industrial (Mon 10am-2pm, Wed-Sun 10am-5pm) for Visa card holders. The post office (Mon-Fri 9am-5.30pm) is behind the church on 7 Avenida, and Telgua office (Mon-Fri 8am-6pm, Sat 9am-1pm) is on 6 Avenida. For Internet access try Acses at 6 C 4-52 (US$4 per hour).
