Email and The Internet
Guatemala has been quick to embrace the Internet , and cybercafes are mushrooming throughout the country - you'll find them in numerous towns including all the main (and many minor) tourist centres. In more remote areas Guatemala's antiquated phone system causes frequent connection problems, but in the cities connection speeds are rapid and reliable. Rates vary between US$1.60 and US$6 an hour. Virtually all language schools are online; many offer students discount Internet rates when they enrol for classes. A vast number of hotels and businesses now have email (and Web sites). Additionally, many towns and regions now boast superb community Web sites , replete with information on accommodation, restaurants, culture and entertainment.
