The Media
There are two main daily national newspapers in El Salvador: La Prensa Grafica ( www.laprensa.com.sv ) and El Diario de Hoy ( www.elsalvador.com/noticias ). Both have full coverage of regional and international affairs - albeit from a very conservative standpoint - and the Friday and Saturday editions are good for arts and cultural events. El Mundo and Diario Latino are smaller afternoon papers with a moderate stance, while Marca is a more sensationalist, tabloid-style affair. Tendencias is a liberal monthly magazine with in-depth analysis of political and social affairs. Daily papers are sold everywhere on the streets. The bigger hotels stock US newspapers and magazines, and the embassies have copies of papers from their respective countries. There are seven national television stations and numerous cable channels showing programmes from South America, CNN and CNN en Espanol, and films. Over seventy radio stations , including Radio Venceremos (owned by the FMLN), transmit pop, rock, Latin sounds and religious programming. The BBC World Service can be picked up in El Salvador on 15220, 12095 and 9915 kHz (shortwave).
