In the extreme southwest of the country, and somewhat separate from the mainland, the Osa Peninsula is home to an area of immense biological diversity, much of it protected by the Parque Nacional Corcovado . Few people fail to be moved by the peninsula's beauty: whichever direction you approach it from, you see what looks to be a floating island, an intricate mesh of blue and green, with tall canopy trees sailing high and flat like elaborate floral hats. Most visitors base themselves in the tiny, friendly town of Puerto Jimenez . From here, you could feasibly "do" the whole peninsula in four days, but this would be rushing it, especially if you want to spend time walking the trails and wildlife-spotting at Corcovado - better to allot five to seven days; more if you want to explore Bahia Drake.
