Practicalities
Facilities at Guanacaste are minimal. To get there, take the exit for Potrerillos on the right-hand side of the Interamericana, 10km south of the Santa Rosa turn-off. At Potrerillos turn right for the hamlet of Quebrada Grande (on some maps called Garcia Flamenco) and continue for about 8km - best to have a 4WD for this trip. You can camp at the main ranger station or there's a rustic, simple lodge at Cacao field station. Call in at Santa Rosa administration (tel 666-5051, fax 666-5020) to check if it's open and how much they're charging for people to stay.
